How This Happened

I am always “in the market.” I love poking around online and seeing what’s going on in marketplaces, even if daydreaming. At any given time, I know what is going on at my favorite stores each day, and I like to think that this is how I stay involved in the things I enjoy. I have wanted a puppy for a long while now, so I had been dancing around the internet looking up dachshund breeders for a few months. One night in mid November, I was on one of my curiosity searches, and came across the most undeniably precious puppy from a liter Available Now” . I sent his pictures to Garrett, and even showed my sister just how cute this puppy was. Because I make a practice of online window shopping, I know that I need to back off and keep things moving. Snap out of the daydream.

Fast forward to Thanksgiving, and was in Santa Fe, cosmo in hand, doing that same online perusing when I came across that same puppy. “Hey, you! What are you still doing on here?” I couldn’t believe this puppy hadn't been sold yet. Right before starting Gone with the Wind with Auntie D, I told to myself, “I’ll just submit an application for this puppy. I’ll be honest about my lifestyle, and if the breeder doesn’t think I am a good fit for one of their dogs, it’s meant to be. And if the breeder likes my application, maybe this is meant to be. Finally, meant to be.”

By the time the four hour long movie ended, I had heard back from the breeder with more information on the puppy and updated pictures. The minute I saw those pictures, it was over. I called Garrett and my twin sister to check my crazy, and they were all on board. Before I knew it, I bought my ticket to Dallas, where my mother-in-law and I would then fly into Dallas and drive two hours to Tyler, TX to pick up my new puppy.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What breed is he? : Miniature Long-haired Dachshund

  2. What breeder is he from? : Fig Forest Dachshunds. Donna has been wonderful to work with, and Reuben is simply a perfect dog. We have been in touch since, and I would highly recommend their puppies.

  3. Does he shed? Hardly. If/when he does, it is barely noticeable

  4. Why did you choose a miniature dachshund? Aside from my childhood obsession with the breed, Dachshunds are considered one of the smartest and most loyal breeds. The miniature’s size, health, and disposition was also a great fit for my lifestyle.

  5. Did you get pet insurance? Yes. As someone who finds comfort and peace with planning, especially for the unexpected, pet insurance was a must. Although Dachshunds are generally healthy dogs, they are prone to back and joint problems that I want to be prepared for. By recommendation of several pet owners and colleagues, I went with Trupanion, and I feel like I made a great decision not just with getting pet insurance, but with Trupanion as a carrier.

Thank you for taking a moment to read about my sweet Reuben. He has changed in my life in the most unimaginable ways, and I don’t know how I have gone this long without him. I love him madly, and you will certainly be seeing more of him here on the blog ;)
