The Sweater of the Season

Do you ever walk (in)to your closet, and hate all of it? About once a season, I scream into my well-stocked wardrobe,“I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!!,” and walk the line of purging all of my clothes. Most times, I talk myself off the ledge, and lovingly shlep on one of my old classics. Not this time, Nancy.

I have my finger on the pulse of retail at all times. On any given day, I could tell you what promotions my favorite stores are having, and how it is different from yesterday’s. I unabashedly love product and seeing how the market adapts to the ever-changing buyer. And this season, J. Crew swung the pendulum in my territory. Turtleneck territory.

The Mockneck Sweater in Supersoft Yarn had me at at hello. I ordered the Spicy Jade color (pictured) when a good promo was going, and ordered two more colors minutes after trying on my first. Holy hot damn, this sweater collection is IT! While the fabric truly lives up to it’s Supersoft namesake, my affection lies with the color range. Every color has an unusual quality about it. The green is not a typical green. The blues are not typical blues. The colors’ quality reminds me of the shades that painted the set of Mad Men. Before fast fashion and chicken shit fabric became desirable. I could see any of these sweaters on Bettie Draper, as she drinks and smokes her way through her pregnancies.

Besides the point. These sweaters are quickly replacing some of my long-held cold-weather staples, while adding a refreshing flare of colors I didn’t have in my wardrobe.

Notes

  • These sweaters do pill a bit. My favorite fabric razor takes care of this easily

  • I sized up in this sweater to compensate for my fuller chest, and a Large fit perfectly

  • DO NOT DRY: I haven’t tried it myself, but I can tell that this could shrink if you aren’t mindfully keeping it from the dryer.

I am so smitten by these sweaters, I had to spotlight them on the blog. If you have purchased some of these sweaters, share with us what you think! See you on Friday with November’s Wallpaper of the Month.
