My Thoughts on Lisa Eldridge's Lipstick Line

It should be no shock to any of you that I am quite the makeup obsessive. Pigments, powders, pallets galore! If I can put it on my face, I want to smudge it all over my face. But just as a mother “loves all of her children equally,” I secretly have a favorite. There is nothing I love more than lipstick. Every morning I open up my lipstick book and look lovingly at my (growing) collection, carefully and deliberately selecting the day’s paint.

To say that I have a thing for lipstick would be an understatement. Luxury lipstick especially. I religiously follow many professional makeup artists, and when I discovered that my favorite artist created her own line of lipsticks, my heart stopped. That artist is Lisa Eldridge, the London-based makeup historian and cosmetic extraordinaire behind some of Lancome’s most ingenious products. Nevertheless her international best selling book, and celebrity clientele, Lisa is easily one of the greatest makeup artists of our time. She shattered the beauty community with her Velvet Lipstick Collection, and returned with a restock of the Red Velvet collection, with some additional new colors. I picked up the Red Velvets, and will be sharing my full thoughts on them today!

The Shades

I bought the True Velvet Collection after heavily debating over her New Velvets. Lisa’s lip range is truly a collection of sophisticated, unusual colors. If you watch her launch videos on both collections, she describes the subtleties and nuances to each color. I chose the reds because, um hi hello IT’S ME, but also because this collection includes both a blue toned red, which flatters my skin best, a warm red, which I can still pull off, and a deep burgundy red, which I adore come Christmas time. With a branded velvet pouch to boot, buying these lipsticks were impossible to resist!

Texture

No photo can give these lipsticks the true textural justice of their physical appearance. A teardrop, patent-like center wrapped in what literally looks like plushy red velvet fabric on the sides of the bullet. I held onto these lipsticks for a week after receiving them, just to revel in their untouched beauty. The women in my life who I have shown these lipsticks to agree, these are lipsticks we have never seen before. Once I finally got the courage to swatch them, I was stunned by the immediate depth and opacity of these rich reds. Gliding with ease and ink-like density with one pass on the lips. All while being long-wearing, yet pleasantly comfortable.

Long story short, I am absolutely infatuated with these lipsticks. These gorgeous gold, magnetized bullets feel almost like collector’s pieces for a makeup lover like me. While many of the colors and sets have sold out, the True Velvet Collection is still in stock and can be found here.

Thanks for stopping by for some beauty chat, and have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
