January Wallpaper of the Month
Hello, 2020, and my second year of Wallpaper of the Month! This past year has been one of challenge and change. From graduating college and starting my career, to my long-term relationship turning long-distance, then to get a puppy and a promotion. 2019 was absolutely wild. As I have taken a few weeks off to celebrate the season with friends and family, I do what all sensible women do this time of year: reflect on the past year hovering over a wheel of brie and a bottle of wine.
I am calling this month’s wallpaper, The View From Here. I love the quiet, calm, shadowy stillness that this photo brings. No matter where I am at the end of the year, I always find a space where I can sit and reconnect with myself, like this photo. A room where the silence is almost audible, the natural light is diffused, and where my mind feels safe and comforted. Spending hours at a time in almost dreamlike state, allowing my mind the spaciousness to reflect, daydream, and regroup. I have loved and looked for these places for as long as I can remember. In my childhood home, it was on the window sill of our formal dining room. At my grandmother’s house it was “the Princess room,” where she would do her makeup alongside the garden. I would sit or lay on those floors in quiet solitude resting, thinking, and reflecting. Going into 2020, I need that now more than ever.
What do you do to reconnect with yourself? If you don’t have a practice of reentering yourself, I recommend starting with a guided meditation practice. I hope you all enjoy this month’s wallpaper, and I wish you all a happy and safe New Year!
